KARLS RESIDENCE
Verona, WI
This site-wide design beautified the property and reduced maintenance, while enhancing ecological integrity. Sandy soil provided an excellent opportunity to introduce hardy native plants, which require less upkeep than non-natives. Sunny areas were converted to shortgrass prairie, providing a colorful and textural contrast to the evergreens bordering the site. Views from inside were considered in all design ideas. The kitchen windows, for example, overlook a welcoming front entryway with a meandering path, a flowing water feature and a woodland garden lush with ferns and ginger. Plentiful native flora and gurgling sounds of water ensure a private, serene experience with frequent visits by birds and other wildlife. The warm paint colors and natural stone facade of the home informed the colors and textures used throughout the design.
